A new law banning public drinking in the Singapore suburbs of Geylang and Little India from 7am on Saturday to 7am on Monday will apply from this weekend, with shops in both areas also no longer allowed to sell takeaway alcohol from 7pm on weekends, the eve of a public holiday, and during public holidays, instead of the standard 10.30pm retail curfew. The public drinking ban also applies from 7pm of the eve of a public holiday to 7am of the day after the public holiday, with offenders risking hefty fines and possible jail time.
