A dilapidated industrial district in Shanghai is set to be restored along a new tram route. Authorities have announced plans to revive a 2.5-kilometre section of industrial wasteland along Longteng Ave next to the Huangpu River. A selection of early 20th century port equipment, including cranes, a steam engine and warehouses, will become part of a public riverside space to accompany the new route, which will see trams on the streets of central Shanghai for the first time in four decades.
