See a glimpse of Buckingham Palace in virtual reality tour

Now everyone can see a glimpse of the royal lifestyle with a virtual reality tour of Buckingham Palace in London.

The palace is the first UK landmark to be part of a virtual reality project with Google that is specially designed for schools. Google Expeditions is an app that brings students on a virtual field trip from anywhere in the world.

The tour brings viewers through some of the Palace’s state rooms, which is meant to simulate the experience of actually walking through them. Students can learn about the history of the Palace and how the rooms are used by expert guides in the video.

As virtual reality travel becomes more and more popular, Google Expeditions has launched a variety of trips, such as the White House and the Great Barrier Reef, to create a collection of tours to help educate kids, teachers and anyone else interested in a virtual travel experience.

Buckingham Palace was selected because thousands of schoolchildren chose it as their top location. It was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham and replaced St James’ Palace in 1837 as the official residency of the monarch. Queen Elizabeth II divides her time between the London palace and other estates.
