Sporting events have been postponed and stadiums have upped their security across the world in the wake of the Paris attacks that targeted Paris’s Stade de France.

The attacks prompted people to question whether the Euro 2016 tournament, due to be hosted in France next year, should end with a final in Paris? Speaking on French radio RTL, tournament organiser Jacques Lambert said that the European football tournament would and should go ahead as planned. “Wondering whether Euro 2016 must be cancelled is playing the game of the terrorists,” Mr Lambert said.
“The risk went up one level in January, it has just gone higher. We will take the necessary decisions for Euro 2016 to take place in the best safety conditions. Security in stadiums works well, the risk is more in the streets, in spontaneous gatherings,” he added.
The comments came after legendary French striker Just Fontaine stated that France should no longer host the tournament. He’s quoted as saying: ” I think we cannot guarantee the safety that is required to host such a big event. It is simply too dangerous. Do you really think that people are going to go to the Stade de France in future?”

The European Championship final is scheduled to be played at the Stade de France on 10 July 2016.
Games over the week
The French national football team who were playing in the Stade de France at the time of the attacks, will be playing their friendly against England today. France manager Didier Deschamps and the team stayed at the Hilton London Wembley on Monday before the game on Tuesday. The French Football Federation insisted that the game go on as a show of solidarity towards those who died.
Scotland Yard has confirmed that armed police will guard the France vs England match this evening. England captain Wayne Rooney told a press conference that the England team were not worried about security at the match. “I think the world of football has to stay strong together,” he said.
The Spain vs Belgium friendly that was due to take place tonight has been cancelled due to heightened terror threats.
Most games across France this week have been postponed, including all European Rugby Championship and Challenge Cup matches which were due to be played this weekend. The European Rugby Champions Cup fixtures include a Glasgow Warriors’ match against Racing 92 on Saturday which was to take place near Paris, as well as Bath’s trip to Toulon on Sunday. The Challenge Cup matches involving French teams due to be played in England this weekend will be going ahead, with Worcester Warriors hosting La Rochelle and London Irish taking on Agen.

New York Knicks forward Kevin Séraphin, originally from France, showed solidarity with Parisians by shaving his hair in support.
