The house in Scotland that inspired Peter Pan has been saved from demolition and has secured funding to become a national centre for children’s literature.

Author JM Barrie moved to Moat Brae in Dumfries in 1873 at the age of 13, and the “enchanted land” of its house and gardens helped inspire his most famous character. The £5.3 million centre will feature exhibitions on Peter Pan and JM Barrie alongside spaces for activities, while the gardens will include a pirate ship and a lagoon.
