Russia’s Ministry of Culture and Russian Federal Agency for Tourism have reportedly proposed relaxing the visa requirements for foreign travellers to the cities of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk in Russia’s Arctic north, and there are also calls for a three-day visa-free regime for the Republic of Karelia.

There’s increased interest from Asian and European travellers (particularly from the Scandinavian countries) in visiting this part of Russia and its exotic experiences such as the Arctic nature and the northern lights. Domestic tour operators have been preparing package tours for the Silver Necklace of Russia routes which include eleven regions in the north.
