A number of residents in the Dutch town of Purmerend have fallen victim to swooping attacks from a European eagle owl, one of the world’s largest owl species. Some locals have taken to carrying umbrellas and wearing helmets for protection when venturing out after dark, while a runner attacked by the owl on Tuesday required stitches for the resulting head wounds. The local council is reportedly trying to find a solution to the problem and advises people to ‘stay away from the owl’. Read more: bbc.com
