As Virgin Galactic works towards plans of expanding tourism to space, it has released the prototype of the flight-suit that will be worn by pilots.
The company is keeping their space apparel fashionable by working with Y-3, which is a collaboration between the Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas. Now, Y-3 will be responsible for all of Virgin Galactic’s flight-suits for astronauts and pilots, as well as the outfits worn by operations and maintenance teams, and hosting staff.
According to Virgin, Y-3 has the “technical know-how and an approach to style which emphasized the use of advanced fabrics, special techniques and bespoke specifications to ensure fit, comfort and performance”.
Virgin Galactic showed off the suit and boots prototypes in a video shot at Spaceport America in New Mexico, which is the location of the company’s Gateway to Space terminal.
