The authorities in Plovdiv, which has been nominated the European Capital of Culture 2019, will from now allow only buskers with a music education diploma, according to Bulgarian media. The town has been divided in three zones, and only qualified musicians will be allowed to perform in the Old Town and the central shopping street. According to the city council, the inspiration for this decision were other cities such as Madrid, where street musicians have to pass an audition to get a license although they are not required to have a formal qualification.
