Trekking tourists following northern Spain’s Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route have kindly been asked not to defecate while passing through the village of Lastres. Signs have appeared at the entrance to the village to let trekkers know not to go about their business while passing through – though village residents claim ignorance over the signs’ appearance. The Way of St James’ pilgrimage route is a popular trekking trail for both religious people and non-believers. It ends in the holy city of Santiago de Compostela where St James is said to be buried at the city’s cathedral. Toilets along the route, which is actually a network of trails stretching for many hundreds of kilometres, are few and far between outside of towns. Some farmers along the trail have complained that their fields are being used as open-air toilets. Read more: telegraph.co.uk
