A Chicago man holidaying in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, credits a sampling of hot sauce with saving his life. Randy Schmitz made a visit to Pepper Palace, or the ‘Worlds’s No. 1 Hot Shop,’ as the store likes to call itself, where he sampled a tiny amount of Flashbang hot sauce from a toothpick. The heat from the Carolina reaper, scorpion and habanero peppers contained in the sauce sent the man in to convulsions. He was later taken to hospital where an MRI scan discovered the early stages of a cancerous tumor. ‘Your Flashbang Pepper Sauce SAVED MY LIFE!!!!,’ Mr Schmitz wrote in an email to the sauce company. He has now been given a lifetime’s supply. However, it may be a while before Randy puts this particular sauce in his mouth, as he says he’s ‘a little bit nervous’. Read more: chicagotribune.com
