At the end of May, the Cheltenham Badlands an hour’s drive northwest of Toronto will be closed for the development of a conservation plan. The seven-hectare landscape of rocky outcroppings draws thousands of visitors each year, which has caused accelerated erosion to the delicate site. Warnings to visitors have gone unheeded – signs previously posted to warn visitors to keep off the badlands have been stolen or vandalized. A fence will be erected to keep trespassers out of the area. The closure will likely take several years while conservationists construct a long-term for the badlands. Read more: canada.com
