A retired employee of the Norwegian Mapping Authority has started a Facebook campaign to give Finland a mountain as a gift to celebrate the centenary of the country’s independence in 2017.

Bjørn Geirr Harsson created the page ‘Halti as an anniversary gift’ to try to garner support for the idea, which would see the Norwegian border being officially moved by just 20m so that the 1,365m-high summit of Halti would fall under Finnish territory. Although the peak doesn’t feature in the top 200 of Norway’s highest mountains, if the border was shifted, Halti would become Finland’s highest.
