North Korea has announced it will create a special tourism zone near Mt Baekdu, the country’s highest peak and also its most active volcano. The area near Mubong workers’ district will be transformed into Mubong Special Zone for International Tour, though details of what the zone would include were not disclosed. Mt Baekdu is an active volcano located on the North Korea-China border. Scientists recently said that an eruption is likely to occur within the next two decades, based on the mountain’s rising height, temperature and helium concentration.
