A man’s failed attempt to woo a flight attendant cancelled a flight in Thailand and left the man facing possible jail time.
As a flight attendant on a domestic Lion Air flight helped people put their bags in the overhead bin, a 23-year-old passenger allegedly joked that she should be careful as carry-on bags may have explosives in them, reports the Bangkok Post. The joke was apparently made in an attempt to flirt with her, according to news site AsiaOne.
The attendant told the captain about the comment, who cancelled the flight. The plane was evacuated and the young man was turned over to the authorities, where he has been charged with spreading false information, which caused a panic in an aircraft.
No explosives were found in the bag, reports the Post, but the man could face a maximum of five years in jail or a fine of 200,000 baht (£3,633) if found guilty.
According to AsiaOne, Lion Air may sue the man for compensation due to the flight disruption and cancellation.
