She may be a muppet ,but that hasn’t stopped one of New York’s most famous museums honouring Miss Piggy with one of its most prestigious awards for woman.
Brooklyn Museum came up with its surprise honouree for her outstanding contribution as a woman in her field. In winning the prize, the volatile Miss Piggy becomes the latest recipient in a long line of famous winners from theatre director Julie Taymore to Sandra Day O’Connor, the one time Surpreme Court Justice.
The Miami Herald reports that the muppet star – described recently by The Daily Beast as the “Gloria Steinem of the Muppet World” – will be interviewed by the feminist at the awards ceremony on 4 June.
Brooklyn’s Elizabeth Sackler Center for Feminist Art museum was founded by its namesake. And Sackler believes Miss Piggy embodies the grit, determination and spirit which has taught millions of women lessons on how to overcome adversity.
With Kermit the Frog also earmarked to attend the ceremony, his sidekick Miss Piggy, noted for her odd excursion into French said simply: “Moi is thrilled.”
