A 34-year-old New York City man drowned in his attempts to save his dog after it had fallen through the ice on a local pond.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Brooklyn resident Garvin Brown and his fianceé had rented a home in the Finger Lakes town of Naples, some 40 miles southeast of Rochester.
Police said Brown was out walking his dog around 1am on Sunday when the pet went onto the ice of a pond and fell through it into the water.
The 4CBS New York station reported that Brown went to the dog’s aid but broke through the ice as he tried to save his pet.
Brown was unable to get out of the cold water and tragically drowned, investigators disclosed.
