The government of India has announced a new pilgrimage route to Mount Kailash in Tibet, regarded by Hindus as the representation on earth of mystical Mount Meru, the spiritual home of the gods. The new yatra route will cross the Nathu La pass from Sikkim to Tibet, replacing the established Kailash Yatra route in Uttarakhand, which was severely damaged by flooding in 2013.
