Just weeks ago, the village of Langtang was one of the most popular trekking stops in Nepal, visited by a constant stream of Gore-Tex-clad trekkers en route to the famous Kyanjin monastery in Langtang National Park. Today, only a single house survives; every other building in the village was destroyed as a massive avalanche and landslide swept down the mountainside in the aftermath of the 25 April  earthquake. Langtang is now said to be the worst-affected place in Nepal, with at least nine foreign trekkers amongst the 100 estimated fatalities.
