Farewell Chowpatty Beach  – Mumbai’s most famous stretch of sand is to be renamed Swaraj Bhoomi (Land of Self Rule) in tribute to Lokmanya Tilak, the Indian Independence leader who was cremated on this spot in 1920. The move has rustled some feathers in the city, where the beach has been a favourite evening gathering spot for centuries, as well as being a popular shooting location for Bollywood films.
