More hotels designed to appeal to art lovers have been added to Bavaria’s Sightsleeping hotels list

Art-lovers visiting Germany may be interested to know that Bavaria Tourism has added five hotels for 2018 to its list of properties that fall under the Sightsleeping brand. The properties offer accommodation throughout Bavaria for people with an eye for art in selected castles, palaces, listed buildings or contemporary hotels with a particular visual appeal.

The Sightsleeping brand combines wellbeing, art and culture with more active experiences, and the jury selecting the accommodation comprises experts from the fields of art, design, marketing and travel journalism. The chosen properties must exhibit other interior design features, such as paintings, prints, drawings or sculptures. The properties are judged on their aesthetics, distinctiveness and creativity, and the jury also evaluates any contemporary furniture used in the property. In addition to providing accommodation in a place of interest, a Sightsleeping property should also offer a wide programme of activities, such as author readings, concerts or drama performances.

The five properties added to the list for 2018 include the Gut Hartschimmel in Pahl. On this organic farm, guests stay in a recently-renovated wooden chalet dating from 1917. The Gut Steinbach in Reit im Winkl in the Bavarian Alps has chalets set around a natural pond, which was inspired by the historic creations of regional craftsmen. The Hotel Wilder Mann, located in the heart of Passau’s picturesque old town, was built in the Baroque era and has been a top destination in this city of three rivers since the 19th century. Count Zeppelin and Empress Elisabeth I were among its prominent guests, and its historic rooms are furnished with exceptional antiques.

In an idyllic location with the Zugspitze in the background, the Staudacher Hof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen has been owned by the same family for 110 years. And finally, the quartier – lodges tagesbar forum, also in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is a renovated 1906 villa that blends with the new loft-style hotel.
