Members of the Alegre brotherhood carried a small coffin through the streets during a mock funeral procession in Madrid, Spain. The brotherhood stopped in various bars during the procession. Tradition dictates that they carry a stuffed sardine through the streets and are seen pretending to pray against a shop front . The ‘funeral’ traditionally marks the end the carnival.
