The government of India has issued closure orders against 60 hotels in Puri in Odisha after investigators found illegal waste being pumped into the ocean. This comes just a day after a leading hotel in Haridwar was closed for polluting the River Ganges. Few expected the National Green Tribunal Act to be enforced when it was introduced in 2010, but the Modi administration has shown a rare willingness to apply green laws in practice in India.
