Mamma Mia! Now’s the time to buy your very own Greek hotel

The Abba movie Mamma Mia! whetted our appetites for gorgeous Greek islands, and now in the year when the sequel to the 2008 hit is being released, you can also buy a hotel there of your own. If you’ve been blue since the day you parted from the last piece of Greek loveliness that you visited, it may cheer you up to know that more than 40 hotels all over the country are expected to be sold in 2018. You could always snap one up and live the Meryl Streep life by opening your very own ‘Villa Donna’. Sure how can you resist it?

While the movie was set on the stunning island of Skopelos, called Kalokairi in the film, a report published in Ta Nea daily newspaper says that hotels in Crete, Rhodes, Kos island, Corfu, Lefkada, Zakynthos, Skiathos and Chalkidiki are among the properties due to be auctioned soon. According to the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, most of the hotels being auctioned are indebted and are unable to service their loans.

Greece is a country full of ancient sun-bleached ruins, passionate music, inspired cuisine and thrill-seeking activities. It has endless cultural pursuits and a calendar bursting with festivals, holidays and exhibits. It attracts serious adrenaline junkies, who enjoy hiking into its volcanoes, watching for dolphins and sea turtles, cycling through lush forests and kite-surfing, wreck-diving, and rock-climbing. Dedicated beach-lovers adore the country’s white-sand, palm-fringed beaches, beautiful islands and crystal-clear waters.

Yes, you’ll be broken-hearted if you miss this opportunity in a country where socialising is a way of life, and restaurants are filled with long tables for big gatherings. If you’re looking to open a hotel in the near future, Greece is clearly saying, “Take a chance on me.”
