As part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of independence from Great Britain, the government of the Maldives is to build a replica of an ancient Maldivian village on the island of Male. Set in the middle of the most densely-populated island in the Maldives, the village will consist of small palm-thatched houses, huts made of coconut palm trunks, and traditional rope swings.
