Lufthansa’s new fine dining menus are a foodie’s dream come true

A long-haul flight can be the perfect way to kick back and relax before a trip. The in-flight movie has been selected, the neck pillow is in place and you’re ready to chill out and drift away. Too frequently, however, when the food arrives, the spell is broken, with the dishes that are often on offer failing to impress. With that in mind, Lufthansa has unveiled a brand new menu aimed at wowing customers that will allow guests to enjoy fine dining while cruising at 36,000 feet.

Due to be rolled out this summer, the new programme will see Lufthansa Economy and Premium Economy Class passengers being able to order from seven selected menus on long-haul flights for an extra charge. Passengers will be able to choose special “A la carte dining” meals that include grilled steak, hearty Bavarian snacks, Mediterranean pasta with shrimp, an exotic Thai curry and a bento box with a selection of classic Japanese sushi. Health-conscious passengers can also choose the Asian vitality menu with quinoa, and each dish is served in porcelain tableware.

The multi-course menus are offered on almost all Lufthansa intercontinental flights from Frankfurt and Munich and are served on order instead of the regular first meal. Meals will cost between €19 ($23) and €33 ($40) and can be booked on the airline’s website up to 24-hours ahead of departure. The “A la carte dining” meals will not replace the existing food and drink offerings in Economy and Premium Economy Class but will complement them at each passengers’ individual request.

According to Lufthansa, the new menus will be available from May 2018.
