Louvre breaks record in €160 million painting deal

Museums in France and the Netherlands have teamed up to purchase two Rembrandt paintings, costing €80 million each.

The portraits of a Dutch couple on the eve of their marriage date back to 1634, and will be shared between Paris’ Louvre  and Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum. The paintings, which are the  largest acquisition ever made by a French museum will be unveiled at the Louvre in the next few weeks before being shipped to the Netherlands for some restoration work.
