The city traipsed in 10th of 12 British cities rated in a Europe-wide survey by Hotel.info, the reservation company.

Overall the research was bad news for UK hotels which, along with those in Russia, scored the lowest marks in a survey where Finland led the way followed by Germany and Austria.

In a section referring specifically to friendliness and competence of hotel staff across European capitals, London trailed in at the back of the field as Budapest took the honours in first place.

The friendliness staff in the UK were located in Yorkshire with Sheffield followed by Leeds in the table, the Evening Standard reported. Bristol and Cardiff also fared well ahead of London in the listings.
