Authorities at Union Station in Los Angeles are to trial a messaging service that helps commuters and visitors navigate the station. Small transmitters called beacons would send messages to people’s phones, telling them how to access station facilities. Opponents say the scheme could have privacy issues but those in favor point out that users will have to sign up to receive the messages, agreeing to share certain data. Read more: latimes.com
