Three opportunistic lions in South Africa’s Kruger National Park thought they had scored an easy meal when they happened upon a black rhino stuck in mud at the edge of a waterhole.

As the rhino struggled to free itself in Kruger the three juvenile males strategically surrounded it, targeting its blind side at every turn.

However, the trio were acutely aware of the rhino’s large horn – its best weapon of defence. The black rhino eventually managed to extricate itself, and after a short battle it was soon the lions that were running scared into Kruger National Park. A video of the incident was posted to YouTube on Monday.
