On Saturday, the first couple of blocks of Chicago’s $100-million Riverwalk extension will be opening to the public giving a first glimpse of a project that will eventually see cocktail bars, floating stages, kayaking operators as well as a trail for bikes and walkers that will stretch from Lake Michigan to Lake Street Bridge. When finally complete in late 2016 the urban playground will comprise six themed sections, including a live performance venue and kids’ splash area, plus lots of eating and drinking spots. The Riverwalk project is one of two large urban parks set to open in Chicago this summer. The 606 project, an elevated park constructed on an abandoned rail track, is scheduled to open on the sixth of June. Read more: chicagotribune.com
