At present, the 220,000 annual UK visitors have to pay £23 upon entry into Indonesia.

The new legislation will be implemented next month and will be expanded to include 30 countries including Russian, Chinese and US citizens.

In a bid to boost overall tourist numbers from eight million in 2014 to 11 million this year, the Indonesian government has granted visa-free entry as part of its strategy for the current season. There will be entry points at five international airports in Medan, Surabaya, Jakarta, Batam and Bali.
