The governor of the state of Indiana approved a bill on Thursday that would allow businesses to refuse customers on religious grounds. The controversial ‘religious freedom’ bill would mean gay people could be denied services, such as those for gay weddings which are legal in the state. Supporters of the bill say it is not about discrimination, but about keeping the government from forcing people to act against deeply held religious beliefs. The mayor of Indianapolis, Greg Ballard, has come out against the bill. ‘We are a diverse city and I want everyone who visits and lives in Indy to feel comfortable here,’ he said.
