From lost pandas to city-wide lockdowns, this is a selection of stories from around the world.
A red panda that escaped from a California zoo and went for a jaunt about town was returned safely over the weekend. Masala the red panda got out of her enclosure on 19 November and was spotted by a member of the public on Sunday. The search spread quickly over social media, inspiring the hashtags #findmasala #bringmasalahome and of course, a parody account @RedPandaMasala.

The band playing the Bataclan on the night of the Paris attacks, Eagles of Death Metal, spoke for the first time since the attack to Vice. The emotional interview saw band members recap the terrifying events of the night, when gunmen shot into the crowd of fans gathered at the concert, killing 89 people and wounding more. The band’s merchandise manager Nick Alexander was among those killed.

A pop-up museum in New York is aiming to measure the mood of the city by scraping social media and real-time data. The Museum of Feelings changes colours along with the “mood” of New York, and, as it is sponsored by Glade fragrances, can provide people with a “unique emotional selfie” that corresponds with a fragrance.

Australia is trying out drones in order to patrol the coastlines and curb shark attacks. New South Wales has implemented the trials after a perceived increase in attacks and a fatality in which a Japanese surfer died. The drone will send live images and GPS co-ordinates to an operator, who can monitor the information.

The UN is set to grant Intangible Cultural Heritage status to North Korean kimchi, an honour that South Korea’s kimchi can already claim. Kimchi is a staple food in the north and south, as well as Japan, as is often considered a super food due to healthy properties.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is encouraging people to stop taking selfies and start sketching. The museum has launched a campaign to help people learn more about art through sketching. The museum is even providing sketchpads and pencils on Saturdays to help people pick up the practice.

With Brussels under lockdown this week following terror attacks in Paris and raids in the Belgian capital, police asked the public not to post information about police operations on social media. Belgians responded not with fear but with cat memes, posting surreal and comical snaps of cats that were ready for a fight and other who were happy to hunker down through the lockdown.
