A bright orange baby leaf monkey was born in the Taronga Zoo in Sydney. Known as the Fracois’ Langur monkey, it’s one of the rarest monkey species in existence. The male infant has been named Nangua after the Mandarin word for pumpkin, and was discovered in its mother Meili’s arms on 7 November. And an animal made a surprise appearance in a piece by economist and journalist Paul Krugman’s New York Time’s article on Monday entitled Terror Politics. The article featured the iconic image of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton watching the raid that was to kill Osama bin Laden. Except this image that Krugman put in featured a white cat hidden in the image, which some readers spotted. Krugman apologised saying he’d taken it from Slate to “lighten things up”. A polar bear cub at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is being nursed by staff after the female, born 6 November, was no longer being cared for by its mother. The mother, Aurora, had given birth to two cubs, but only the one survived. To read more go here.

A Christmas market in Cuomo, Italy had its share of bad luck when a fire broke out burning down 40 stalls and allowing for the escape of one opportunistic reindeer. The reindeer is still believed to be at large, and its owners are worried about its survival as its a domesticated animal unsuited to the wild. To read the full story go here.

An unfortunate cow had to be rescued from a roof-top patio by firemen after it fell from a 20-foot clifftop. Crews said the astonished home owner thought he was being burgled when the large Fresian crashed onto a terrace over his garage near Halifax, West Yorkshire. To read more go here.
