If you’re a Harry Potter fan visiting New York later this year, you won’t want to miss an exhibition running there from 5 October to 27 January 2019. “Harry Potter: A History of Magic,” will have original drafts and drawings by J.K. Rowling, and will run at the New-York Historical Society.

Wizards and muggles alike will enjoy the extensive exhibition, which celebrates 20 years of Harry Potter fandom. It will even feature the original pitch letter that J.K. Rowling crafted, which twelve publishers rejected before Bloomsbury picked it up. Original drafts and drawings by illustrators Mary GrandPré and Jim Kay are also on display, as well as never-previously-seen Harry Potter artefacts. This exhibition is currently on display at the British Library in London and will remain there until the end of February.

Items on display include rare books, manuscripts and magical objects from the British Library, New-York Historical Society, US Harry Potter publisher, Scholastic, and other special collections. They capture the traditions of magic, folklore and mythology that underpin the themes and imagery brought to life in the Harry Potter stories, providing a backdrop to Harry, Ron and Hermione’s world of wizardry and witchcraft. Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to explore the subjects studied at Hogwarts in-depth.
