Mongolian camel riders this week broke the Guinness world record for the largest camel race.
A group of 1108 Bactrian camels and their riders gathered in Ömnögovi province in southern Mongolia. The race covered 15km and it took a little more than an hour for all of the camels to finish. The previous world record for the largest camel race was held by 550 riders from Inner Mongolia in China. Most of the Mongolian riders were nomads or camel herders from the Gobi region, and the aim of the race was not only to break a world record but also to promote the Mongolian Bactrian camel.
