The Edinburgh International Festival has announced a lineup of 2300 performers from 39 nations. Edinburgh’s August events, which include the Fringe and Book festivals, as well as the International Festival, form the largest arts festival in the world. The International Festival, which has been running for almost 70 years, opens with a free open-air animation set to music, and also features an adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s novel Lanark, a multimedia production of The Magic Flute, and a Juliette Binoche-fronted take on Antigone. The International Festival has tended to focus on classical music, opera and theatre, but this year includes pop music too. Read more: bbc.co.uk
