The Maldives are known for their soft, white sand beaches and turquoise waters, making it a sought-after destination for those seeking a perfect warm-weather holiday. But for the first time, you can enjoy a classic cold-weather activity – ice-skating – without straying far from the beach.
The Jumeirah Vittaveli is opening the first ice-skating rink in the Maldives, allowing guests to the island nation to enjoy a classic winter activity without forsaking their sun holiday. The experience will allow guests to “take a dip in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, then step off the white sandy beaches and into a pair of skates to glide over the resort’s glistening ice skating rink”.
The rink is launching before Christmas, so those spending their holiday at the luxury hotel can enjoy the skating rink in the tropical climate. If you’re wondering how an ice rink can operate in a country where the temperature is currently hovering around 29C, then that’s where some special technology comes in. The ice rink has been built in partnership with Glice, a company that manufactures artificial ice plates. The synthetic ice means that the skating rink can function without water or using energy, meaning it’s an eco-friendly way to skate in the tropics.
With the Maldives’ pristine beauty has come with a number of ultra-luxury hotels and a long list of over-the-top services that they offer. Recently, the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island introduced an “Instagram Butler”, who will take all those perfect holiday snaps for you. Another luxury resort opened last year – along with an incredible underwater restaurant that pairs seafood with under-the-sea views.
