Get a free road trip in Scandinavia with this airline this summer

Good news for travellers from the United States who are planning on taking a European excursion this year, as a newly announced special offer from Scandinavian Airlines will allow them to rent a car for free for a five-day adventure when they book with the company.

Running now until 15 March, the offer is valid on transatlantic round-trip bookings made for two people from the US to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, and allows travellers the chance to follow their dreams of exploring the different areas from the open road. Created in association with Avis rental car, the offer can be used on trips between 18 May and 16 August 2018. Whether it’s discovering what it means to truly embrace hygge – a Danish word for life’s cosy comforts, travelling by Sweden’s unspoiled forests and rocky islands and trying fika – the art of stopping to socialise over coffee, or meeting local Norwegians to discover the unique culture, travelling by car often allows for more freedom of exploration in a new place.

“We are happy to be able to offer travellers a chance to see the Scandinavian capitals, as well as travelling the surrounding, beautiful areas through this collaboration,” Fredrik Henriksson, Head of Media Relations told Lonely Planet Travel News. Visitors to Oslo will no doubt be interested in taking the opportunity to explore the network of famous fjords, as well as it’s bucolic parks and islands, all of which are close to the city by car. One popular route is Nasjonale Turisveger’s 18 scenic routes that span Norway’s coastline from north to south.

Travellers to Copenhagen and Stockholm also have a wealth of opportunities right on their doorstep to wander further afield, whether it’s a day trip to Helsingør in Denmark to see Kronborg Castle (immortalised in Shakespear’s Hamlet) or visiting Sweden’s breathtaking array of natural lakes. Available through the Avis network, the cars must be picked up and returned to the same location.

More information on the offer and booking is available at the official Scandinavian Airlines website.
