The Victorian government has announced live music venues can now apply for assistance from the government for sound proofing works in response to local resident noise complaints.
Six venues will already be receiving assistance include Richmond’s Bakehouse Studios, Bendigo Hotel, Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar, Ding Dong Lounge, 1000 Pound Bend and Revolver Upstairs.’These sound proofing grants will allow neighbours to enjoy peace and quiet at home and still embrace the vibrancy of where they live’ said Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming & Regulation, Jane Garrett. Melbourne’s live music scene was previously suffering from the inner city’s increasing gentrification resulting in noise complaints from new residents, increased security expectations for late licensed pubs, and the lure of apartment developments for historic hotel owners.
