Fuel rationing has finally been lifted in Nepal after the end of a five month blockade of trade across the India-Nepal border by groups opposed to Nepal’s new constitution.
Protesters from the Madhesi tribal community, who fear they will be marginalised in the new constitution, finally took down the barricades last Monday, allowing much needed fuel and medical supplies to reach struggling communities in Nepal. Fuel has been rationed since the protests began in September 2015, forcing up the cost of everything from cooked food to airline tickets.
