Final note sounds for New York’s only classical sheet music store

New York‘s only remaining classical sheet music store will close its doors for the last time on Friday.

It’s the final note for music lovers but the Frank Music Company explained that the reason for the decision was due to poor sales because of the availability of scores online.

CBS New York and AP report that the store, located on West 54th Street, first began trading 78 years ago in 1937. The outlet has supplied generations of singers and composers and instrumentalists with classical sheet music. Among the store’s celebrity customers were pianist Emanuel Ax and violinist Pamela Frank.

The Wall Street Journal spoke to owner Heidi Rogers who explained that she now only saw two or three customer per day against 20 in the good old days. The store has hundred of thousands of scores in stock which have now been bought by an anonymous donor who is to pass on the scores as a gift for the Los Angeles-based Colburn School music conservatory.

Manhattan resident Ms Rogers says she plans to head to the Catskills in upstate New York to raise chickens.
