Airbnb has released a list of its most desired properties and it includes a lot of tree-houses.

Airbnb, the home-sharing website, allows users to save properties they’d like to stay at in the future on a “wish-list”, which the company describes as aspirational properties where a traveller would stay if they had “all the time and money they could want”.

People tend to gravitate to interesting abodes like tree-houses and yurts. The company released the top types of accommodation that people prefer, ranking them from one to ten as follows: tree-house, igloo, van, lighthouse, cave, island, yurt, train, loft and cabin.

The most wished-for properties are not expansive villas, notes the company, but rather smaller places with unique designs. The top ranked property is a secluded treehouse in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a “seashell house” in Mexico, a treehouse loft in Italy and a cob cottage on Mayne Island in Canada.

The cities with the most popular properties in the world are in mostly warm places, and are ranked from one to ten as follows: Belize City, Belize; Okinawa, Japan; Savannah, Georgia; Mendocino, California; Kyoto, Japan; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Margaret River, Australia; Jervis Bay, Australia; and Tamarindo, Costa Rico.

The types of properties people want to stay in show that “when people travel on Airbnb, they want to experience something delightful, something off the beaten path”, according to a news release.
