A Syrian-Palestinian father and son have been living in Dubai airport for a fortnight, sleeping behind a row of chairs while waiting for authorities to decide where to send them. Their whole family fled Syria in 2012 for Jordan, where they were not authorised to work. In desperation, father Wael al-Sahlee and his nine-year-old son tried to get to Europe via Sudan but were deported to Dubai. No country would admit them so the pair were stuck living at the glitzy airport, relying on food handouts from airline FlyDubai, before being sent back to Jordan where their future is unclear.
