Staff at Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo practised capturing a runaway zebra – or rather, a zookeeper in a zebra costume – as part of an annual drill to prepare for the event of animals escaping in a disaster scenario.

In this year’s mock escape, a zebra ran from its enclosure following an earthquake, staff assembled with a large net, one zookeeper feigned a heart attack, and eventually the zebra was tranquilised and captured. Runaway-animal drills have previously made the headlines in Japan, with Tama Zoo last year using a staff member dressed as a snow leopard. Read more: theguardian.com
