There’s no doubt that the films of critically-acclaimed director Wes Anderson have captured the imaginations of people all over the world. In the past, his unique, colourful style has inspired an online community to help scout suitable film locations, as well as the creation of a dedicated Airbnb that allows guests to fully immerse themselves in his world. And now, one Chicago restaurant is offering customers another chance to soak in the nostalgic atmosphere of Wes Anderson, by introducing a special dining experience inspired by his films.
Called Elizabeth, the restaurant is at 4835 North Western, and is owned and operated by self-taught chef Iliana Regan. Focusing on seasonal dishes inspired by nature, the restaurant is hosting the special Wes Anderson dining experience this spring that will see a custom-made menu “focusing on aesthetic, themes and voyages in the motion pictures”. Priced from US$100 – $150 (£71-£107) per person, with prepaid reservations being accepted for groups of two to four, the experience will include goose-stuffed bread and apple with stars on it, inspired by Fantastic Mr. Fox, an Indian dish from Darjeeling Limited with lamb, fish and chicken (what the character Francis orders for his brothers), seafood dishes inspired by The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and a camp-themed fish dish from Moonrise Kingdom.
Also included on the menu will be a pastel pink, Mendl’s inspired dessert from The Grand Budapest Hotel. “The dinner will be quirky, kitsch-y and color-focused. We are a bunch of kooks and oddballs, which is what a lot of Wes Anderson’s movies are based around. I want the dinners to really focus on our already existing quirkiness,” Iliana told Lonely Planet Travel News. The chef also said that the dining experience has been planned to coincide with the release of Isle of Dogs, Anderson’s new animation film due for release in March.
Elizabeth also runs other themed nights and tutorials, including a Dr. Seuss inspirations evening, a zombie apocalypse pop-up and bread-making classes. More information on dining at Elizabeth Restaurant is available at the official website.
