Around the world dogs are man’s best friend, but in Nepal, pups are treated with a special festival to honour them.

Kukur Tihar, celebrated this year on 10 November, is the second day of the Nepalese Hindu festival of Tihar and is dedicated to honouring dogs. People in Nepal give their favourite pups a bath, delicious foods, flower garlands and a smear of red tika dye on their heads to show how sacred they are and celebrate their connections with humans.
