Europe, Weird, Odd & Just Plain Fun
He may not have had the fame of Donald Duck in life, but in death Desmond the Drake has just carved out his own name for posterity.

This follows the decision by his human community in an English hamlet that the church will fly its flag at half-mast as a mark of respect to the dead duck.
The local mill pond duck’s passing has also led to mourners deciding to hold a wake at the village local, The Ring O’Bells, in Compton Martin, Somerset, to honour the 25-year resident.
Desmond had become a local celebrity for the way he frightened off other males looking at his flock, according to the Blackmore Vale Magazine.
Mill pond owner Andrew Griffiths told the magazine that Desmond had brought plenty of joy to villagers of all ages so they were planning a wake and to fly their flag at half-mast.
Mr Griffiths said Desmond was “the village icon”. So much so that one local society had formed ‘The Blood of the Duck’ whereby they would drink whiskey with a duck egg in it.
The Toronto Sun reported that the duck’s passing came at the jaws of a fox. It meant that there was only a pile of feathers remaining for the villagers to remember him by.
As the top duck in the village he was famous for his love of eating stale break and cake.
An exact date for the wake has yet to be announced.
