The quokka has become an overnight internet star as the #quokkaselfie hashtag gains traction on Instagram and Twitter. Tourists in Western Australia have been snapping themselves with the photogenic marsupial. The quokka is endemic to the southwest of WA including Rottnest and Bald Islands and is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of threatened species. Read more: npr.org
